About this job
This yard has an inground pool, a small cabana and tall trees beyond the back line. A long, straight run of cedar across the back gives privacy and makes a clean backdrop for the pool.
Cedar weathers to silver if you leave it alone, or you can stain it to keep the warmer colour. Either way, it suits a yard with this much green around it.
The challenge
The fence runs close to the pool surround and the cabana, with mature trees right behind it, so there isn’t much room for digging or for moving materials.
What we did
We kept the line straight from end to end, so it reads as one clean wall of cedar, and tied it in neatly at the cabana.
What this means for homes around the GTA
Any fence that forms part of a pool enclosure has its own rules. In Toronto, pool gates must be self-closing and self-latching. Brampton requires an enclosure permit where water can be deeper than 60 cm, and Markham needs a pool fence permit before the pool goes in. Check with your city before you change a fence around a pool. Our fence page covers the rest.
