Before
AfterAbout this job
This walkway ran along an old chain-link fence with grapevines growing through it, which left the side of the house wide open. We built a long lattice screen and stained it a warm red-brown, so the walkway feels private while still letting air and light through.
The challenge
The walkway is narrow, and a solid fence would have made it feel like a corridor. The plants on the other side of the chain-link also had to be left alone.
What we did
Lattice blocks most of the view without closing the space in. We set the posts along the walkway side of the old fence and stained the panels to go with the brick.
What this means for homes around the GTA
Brick bungalows with a narrow walkway down one side are everywhere in Etobicoke, Scarborough and North York. Before you add height along a property line, check your city’s fence limits and talk to your neighbour. Our fence page has the height limits around the GTA.
